There is actually evidence and studies that have been conducted to actually back up the fact that budgies do actually fart!

So Do Budgies Fart?
Budgies and birds in general are not exempt from passing wind
They do pass wind but it’s not been observed or measured (If that’s even possible!)
Here’s the thing
Birds are capable of passing gas but they don’t because they don’t have the same diet and gas forming bacteria in their gut that gives us mammals gas and the ability to fart! This is according to Monterey Bay Aquarium veterinarian Mike Murray
However, Laura Eriksen, a birder, educator, and blogger at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a different opinion in her blog post
She says birds have shorter digestive tracts than mammals which means there’s less time for gas to build up so a fart would go undetected
They may fart but we just can’t hear it!
I know there’s two contradicting opinions so it’s entirely up to you what you want to believe!

If you’re on the believing side then I’d like to cover what may make a parakeet to pass gas
One of the main factor that causes a budgie to fart is their diet
You see, if you’re feeding your budgie a lot of seeds, beans or other food that produces gas in your gut it’s more likely they will fart more often
Another possible reason why a budgie may keep farting is because they are anxious or stressed out
They may relieve gas as a way to relieve some tension
Food That Makes Budgies Fart
Here’s a list of food you should try to avoid feeding your budgie excessively
- Beans
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
- Dairy products such as milk and cheese
Try to feed these type of food less to your budgie to avoid them farting too much!
If your budgie is still passing gas even without eating these food, you should take your bird to the vets
