Why Is My Budgie Walking In Circles

Budgies can be very hyper!

They love to walk side to side and fly about in the house when you give them out of cage time

But a question some budgie parents ask is – Why is my budgie walking in circles?

If your budgie is walking in circles it can be a cause of concern

You should take your budgie to the vets to get an expert opinion especially if your bird has been doing this for a long time

There could be other reasons which I will discuss in the article so carry on reading

Why Do Birds Walk In Circles?

First and foremost, make sure to take your budgie to the vets to make sure it’s nothing serious because a budgie walking in circles can be a cause of concern

It could even be a seizure/ or a stroke so take your budgie to the vet asap!

Hopefully your budgie is fine and it’s nothing serious

If it’s not serious then another reason could be your budgie is just bored

And due to boredom, your little birdie is just walking around in circles

If your budgie is bored then you need to make sure they are entertained and not left alone

Out of cage time is very important so make sure you let your budgie out of their cage

This will give them a chance to fly about and explore

It also allows you to spend some quality time with your bird

If this is the first time you’re going to let your budgie out of their cage it can be daunting

It’s a scary moment because you don’t want your little birdie to get hurt

Lucky for you – I have written an article about this which you can check out by clicking here

Maybe your parakeet is not walking in circles but is spinning in circles – This could mean again your parakeet is bored or just going crazy!

It could be classed as normal behavior but you should keep an eye on your bird

Sometimes a bird walking in circles is not a good sign as mentioned earlier as it could mean your little birdie is having a stroke!

5 Signs To Look Out For If Your Budgie Is Dying

It’s not something budgie parents want to talk about but it’s important at the same time

All budgie parents will go through this at one point

Budgies live an average of 4 – 8 years. They have a relatively short life span

The least you can do is know the signs of a budgie in their last moments so you can ease their suffering or even help out too

Here’s 5 signs you should look out for

1. Breathing Problems

These are characterized by the following

  • Tail bobbing up and down while breathing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Breathing heavily through an open beak
  • Wheezing and clicking sounds
  • Trying to get more oxygen by stretching out it’s neck

2. Feather Don’t Look Healthy

Feathers are very important to budgies

And if you notice something not right with it, this could be a sign of disease

Here’s what to look out for

  • Not preening
  • Parasite infection
  • Featger cysts

3. Budgie Vomiting

Budgies regurgitate food which is a sign for mating or show of affection

This can look like vomiting because they take their food out

So how do you tell the difference?

By looking at how your bird is throws up

If your budgie voluntarily brings up food by moving their head then that is regurgitating

But if your budgie’s head shakes and bobs violently before bringing out food, this is vomiting

Budgies will vomit if they are really sick

4. Budgies Excreta Is Different

Budgie droppings can tell you a lot about their health

If the color of your budgies droppings are different than to how they usually look it’s not a good sign

You can learn more about this by checking out Omlet.co.uk

5. Budgie Is Not Active As Much

You know your budgie more than anyone else so if you notice your little birdie not being themselves then that’s a sign

Here’s things to look out for

  • Not feeding well
  • Sleepy during the day
  • Losing balance
  • Trembling
  • Not able to move as often
  • Very quiet
