My Budgie Just Sits There

Budgies make wonderful pets. These birds are small in size, but they have huge personalities. And, as they are very intelligent creatures, they depict individual personality traits. Hence, many budgie lovers claim that they can tell each of their budgie buddies apart.

But, there are circumstances when your budgie shies away from any company and even your presence. And, budgie parents are left feeling lost why their budgie is not chirping, singing, or moving. However, there is no need for you to feel helpless. You can do many things to help out your budgie.

But, before you attempt to help them out, you have to understand the reasons why your budgie may be acting in a particular way.

So, without further ado, let’s go through some of the causes of their aloofness.

Why Your Budgie May Just Sit In One Spot

So, it’s true that most budgies love to interact.

And, yes also love to sing, chirp and play.

But, not every budgie is alike, just as not all humans are the same.

So, let’s look at some of the reasons for your budgie sitting in one spot, without sparing even a glance in your direction.

Signs Of An Illness?

Although budgies are hardy birds, a budgie that is unwell will favor one spot.

If you notice that your budgie is favoring one leg, eating less, and not making much movement, then it is time to head to the avian vet.

A thorough examination and assessment of your budgie’s daily routine will make it evident if your budgie is unwell.

Contrary Personality

There isn’t any need for you to fear for the well-being of your budgie, especially if you have visited an avian vet recently to make sure that your budgie is doing alright.

So, what is it that is making your budgie unwilling to mingle?

You may have adopted a budgie who is stubborn in nature or just shy.

At the same time, it is true that most budgies make delightful pets.

There are many out there that do not appreciate too much human attention or contact.

Hence, if you have come across one such quiet soul, do not despair.

Time and love can work wonders on the most kindred of spirits.

Your daily attention, constant care, and presence over a period can break the barriers of your budgie’s hardened heart.

Here’s an article where I talk about how you can bond with you budgie

Too Young To Move

Budgies do attract a lot of attention with their singing and talking.

But, such behavior comes with age.

Baby budgies are the complete opposite of their matured counterparts.

Young budgies do not make any noise.

They are usually kept in a warm, dark nest by their mommies.

They also tend to huddle into other baby budgies and stay as quiet as possible.

Such behavior is a sign of self-preservation as noise can attract predators.

So, if you’ve recently got a baby budgie into your home, don’t expect it to become accustomed to its new environment or your presence any time soon.

Change Of Home

On the other hand, if you’ve brought in an adult budgie that had a home someplace else, it may feel insecure in its new environment.

If your budgie is getting acclimatized to a new home, it will take its time.

Until it feels safe, it may restrict its movement and diet to let you know that it is not pleased with its current situation.

Depression

Birds can get depressed

Budgies do love to socialize.

And, if your birdie bonded with another bird that it loses due to your adoption or death, it will grieve for its loss.

When budgies mourn, they tend to stick to one spot.

Many avian vets do not even recommend keeping a lone budgie as a pet.

It is generally believed that budgies thrive with other birds in their surroundings.

So if you do feel that your budgie is feeling forlorn, it may be time to adopt another budgie for your upset fluff ball.

Is It Normal For A Budgie To Be Quiet?

Yes, it is perfectly normal for your budgie to be quiet.

Although budgies have a reputation for creating a stir, they are less audible than other parrots.

The only difference between the noise created by parrots and budgies is that budgies mimic humans real well.

They also sing pretty well.

So, while the noise from parrots sounds nothing more than a din, sounds from a budgie are amusing for humans.

Conclusion

The best advice most avian vets give to pet parents is to keep a close eye on their birds.

They recommend that if you see significant changes in your bird’s behavior, bring them around for a checkup.

And, it is perhaps wise to do as the doctor says.

After all, birdie lovers have to understand that their pets are delicate creatures that need constant nurturing and care to thrive.

Here’s a question that is asked by budgie parents and honestly, I don’t want to talk about it but yet it is important

What Are The Signs Of A Budgie Dying?

Flattened feathers, loss of appetite, feather plucking, or diarrhea are the most obvious signs of an unhealthy bird.

If you do see these symptoms, and they persist, do not waste time and head straight for an avian vet.

Lethargy, swollen beak or eyes, or nasal discharge are also signs of illness.

But, sometimes, budgies do not show any sign of their illness.

And, you may lose your beloved pet just out of the blue.

Yet, there is nothing that you can under such circumstances.
